Illustration of expert escalation support for a school IT technician: headset, laptop and resolved tickets

Expert backup for your school’s on-site IT team

School IT technicians and network managers do the work of an entire department, often alone. One minute it’s a password reset, the next it’s a new app a teacher found at BETT, a filtering alert, a printer that won’t behave, an Intune deployment and a ransomware warning, all before break.

We give your on-site team a senior, education-specialist IT department to lean on. Your technician stays in charge. We provide the escalation, expertise and capacity that make their job manageable and keep your school secure.

How we support school IT technicians

  • Escalation support: a senior engineer to call when a problem is complex, urgent or outside their experience.
  • Second opinions before big changes: filtering, firewall, Microsoft 365, Intune or network changes checked before they go live.
  • Project capacity: extra hands for Wi-Fi upgrades, server and storage replacements, migrations and device rollouts.
  • Cyber security expertise: patching strategy, MFA, backups, incident response and the DfE cyber security standard.
  • Holiday and absence cover so the school isn’t left exposed when your technician is off.
  • Documentation and best practice: procedures, network diagrams and policies that protect the school and your technician.
  • Training and mentoring: practical upskilling through our School IT Academy and one-to-one guidance.
  • A voice with leadership: plain-English reports to SLT and governors that make the case for what your technician needs.

Why it matters

The Government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025/2026 found that 73% of secondary schools identified a cyber breach or attack in the last year, yet only 62% of secondary schools and 45% of primary schools have a policy to apply security updates within 14 days. Just 23% of secondary schools have covered all of the NCSC’s 10 Steps to Cyber Security. School IT staff told the survey that budgets and staff time are the main barriers, not a lack of will.

With the DfE expecting schools in England to meet its core digital and technology standards by 2030, one person can’t be expected to carry all of that alone.

The benefits for your school

  • Keep the knowledge you’ve built: your technician knows your staff, pupils and systems. We build on that rather than replacing it.
  • Senior expertise without a senior salary: access to experienced education IT specialists for a fraction of the cost of an IT manager.
  • Less risk: fewer single points of failure, better security and tested recovery plans.
  • Happier, more confident IT staff who are far more likely to stay.

Frequently asked questions

Will you replace our IT technician?

No. Our co-managed support is designed to back up your on-site team, not take over. Your technician keeps day-to-day ownership and makes the decisions. We provide escalation, expertise and extra capacity when it’s needed.

What kind of problems can our technician escalate?

Anything from Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune issues to networks, Wi-Fi, servers, storage, backups, filtering, firewalls and security incidents. If it’s stopping your school working or putting it at risk, we’ll help.

Can you help us meet the DfE cyber security standard?

Yes. We audit your current set-up against the DfE standard, Cyber Essentials and the NCSC 10 Steps, then work with your technician on a prioritised plan to close the gaps.

Do you work with academies and multi-academy trusts?

Yes. We support individual schools, academies and multi-academy trusts across the UK, including trusts with technicians spread across several sites.
